The 10-0 New Orleans Saints face the greatest threat to their unbeaten record as the 7-3 New England Patriots visit the Superdome on Monday night.
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady suffered a minor injury to his throwing shoulder in last week’s 31-14 win over the Jets, but is expected to play along with tight end Ben Watson, who took a knock to the knee in that game.
Number two Running back Fred Taylor, scorer of two of the Pats’ 11 rushing touchdowns this season, is definitely out.
The Patriots’ offence may have to rely on their number two ranked pass attack. Star receivers Randy Moss and Wes Welker are fully fit and both will expect success against a moderate Saints defence. Brady tosses for 302 yards per game, while the Saints’ concede an average of 266.
The battle between the Saint’s number one ranked offence and the Pats’ second-rated defence should be fascinating. 22 of the home side’s 40 touchdowns this season have come through the air, though they are yet to meet a side as strong in the safety as the men from New England. The visitors give away just 187 passing yards per game, and have intercepted 13 times in their ten outings.
