South Africa opener Hershelle Gibbs has been sensationally ruled out of the Champions Trophy opener with a rib-injury.
Hashim Amla or Jacques Kallis will move up the order to open the batting with Greame Smith.
There are no other injury worries for the tournament favourites ahead of the Group A clash.
Sri Lanka, coming off a defeat to India in the Compaq Trophy Series final, will have Murali back in the starting XI, after being rested against the Indians.
Ajantha Mendis is likely to be the man to make way.
