Scotland damaged Kent's hopes of qualifying for the Friends Provident Trophy quarter-finals with a weather-assisted win in rain-hit Edinburgh on Monday. It was Scotland's first Trophy win of the summer after six Group B defeats.
Kent however remain one of three teams who can can still join unbeaten Group B winners Somerset in the last eight.
Robert Key's men must beat Warwickshire in the final round of qualifying games at Edgbaston on Wednesday - and improve their run rate to better than that of the Bears and the other contenders, Middlesex.
Warwickshire too fell to defeat in their last outing, a tense finish against Middlesex, themselves fighting to preserve their slim hopes of progress to the last eight. Having now played their final group game the Panthers will only join Somerset in the quarter-finals if Kent beat Warwickshire but fail to overcome Middlesex's currently superior run rate.
With home advantage against Kent though progress through to the knockout stages is still very much in the Warwickshire Bears' own hands and a victory over the Spitfires tomorrow would seem them leapfrog into that coveted second position at just the right time.
